I hope these thoughts and ideas are useful to you.
There are many different types of learning difficulty. Many children do not
fall neatly under a label. I find it better to think of the child as a
learner and find the way that is best for that child to learn. Most children
like to please a friend - so you must build up their trust in you and then
they will do their best.
Help him to learn. It may be that he understands pictures very well and he
needs pictures with words to help him understand reading.
Maybe he will learn how to do things by trying them - looking how things
work, making shapes and models, measuring for himself. .
If he takes a long time to learn then give him plenty of time and try to
show him in different ways what you want him to learn. Listen to him - he
may give you a clue about where he is having a problem. Children with a
learning difficulty get tired very quickly because the work is difficult. Do
not expect them to do the same amount of work as the other children.
If the work is too difficult he will get bored. Go back to an easier level
and get him interested again. Some children will not learn as much as other
children, but they are all good at something. Tell them what they are good
at - even that they give you a smile everyday and make you feel happy!
Always give lots of praise when he gets something right. Make sure that you
end a lesson on a happy note.
Good luck
